The Zero-RP Bug
Hi NGD,
Lately people have been taking shots at each other here on the forums because of a bug that seems to have appeared in a recent update, a bug which allows people to deny other players their RP (and which can occur without intent).
Whether a good thing or a bad thing... RP is pretty much the only measure of kills/rating/ranking/score in the game.
Today at Samal, I did enough damage and buffing to have been rewarded a few points for roughly 5-10 kills. I received 2 RP from one kill and all the rest didn't get counted and I know for sure there should have been a hell of a lot more kills counted... sadly, almost all of the people there were doing the "instant resurrect" thing. - It's ridiculous.
I know it's just RP, but I will openly admit I'm pissed off at being denied the only reward (apart from satisfaction of defeating the enemy) that the game has, and certainly the only reward that the game-mechanics provide.
It's not Ignis I'm pissed at though. I don't really feel they're to blame, they were just eager to get back into the battle and their save was nearby.
Note: I'm posting this in the "Gameplay Problems" forum area because the other discussions were in General, etc. and were mostly players directing complaints at one another, when really they should be addressing you directly on the issue.

I've said this before but...
RP are a measure of how much you play, not how good you are. I wish people could look past the game mechanics and play for themselves.
If I play optimally, I get much less RP than if I don't. You see conjurers do it all the time, using every area spell they have every time you see 1 enemy, just to hog the RP. I don't use any spells if it's not necessary. I use synergy bond if there's no need for a full blown mana communion. Basically I save spells until they are actually needed. This means my hunt parties stay alive almost indefinitely, but I get very few RP. However, it's 10x more fun and rewarding to stay alive for 2-4 hours in enemy territory than keep going back to save for a few more kills.
In itself I think this kinda negates the usefulness of RP. Really, I know people get annoyed for missing them, but anyone who judges a player's skill by RP is seriously misguided I think most people do judge players skill on merit and not on RP though

I know what you mean, I hate bug exploiters too. That is, if they do exploit a bug. Else it's always nice to scroll up the list to see how many times you got rp IE how many times you helped kill someone . That's the only useful thing of rp I can think of atm, but the combat log isn't saved locally so it's pretty hard to keep track of it anyway which makes the counting of rp in the combat log useless when you've stayed alive long enough :/.

I didn't state RP is a measure of how good you are nor imply it.
I just stated that it is the only reward/recognition/etc. the game mechanics provide for your efforts. I also mentioned the satisfaction of beating the enemy, as in, I mentioned that there is something besides the game mechanics.

That's going slightly off-topic.
My point of posting this was to bring it NGDs attention, addressing them directly regarding the bug rather than players complaining at one another because of it.
I didn't create this thread, nor address it directly to NGD with the intent of debating the merits of the RP system... we've been there and done that already (and we see that there are a number of experienced players that regard RP as bad measurement)
My reasons for posting:
- Something is broken.
- It's irritating players (whether they are, in your opinion, idiots for valuing RP or not!!)
- Players are bitching at each other
- Nobody had addressed NGD directly on the issue from what I could see.
- A lot of people are causing it, whether intentional or not (which is why I gave an example of how it's effected me on 80% of numerous enemy in a fort war)
That's all I was trying to get across

I agree that this is a bug that NGD should fix, and not the responsibility of people to refrain from clicking Res immediately. I am not convinced that this is the case, anyway. I've seen many times where the log says that I defeated myself, many times while I've laid dead on the battlefield for a long time, watching the fight conclude. Did people get RP when my log says "You have defeated yourself?" I don't think anybody really knows for sure, except maybe NGD. Also when no RP show in the log, does that mean that you got no RP, or that you did get RP but the log didn't show it?
In any case, this is an issue for NGD to deal with.
As was mentioned before, playing effectively does not necessarily reflect in RP earned. For example, if I cast Bless, Bless Weapon, Str/Dex buff, Divine Intervention and a Heal on 4 teammates before a fight starts, then those four teammates kill someone, I will get 0 RP. Even though I've cast 20 spells, expending a large amount of energy in preparation, those spells do not count because they were cast before the fight started. But I will continue to cast these spells, because I care more about playing effectively, helping my friends win battles, and having a good time than I do about a meaningless scoring system.

I really want a statement by NGD.
Display bug or lost RP. I am very very sure that it is the first thing...

the "you defeated yourself" bug is another and caused by spells which do a certain kind of damage like Ethereal Arrow. Its also caused by mana draining spells, i.e. i can "defeat" certain kind of mobs with a energy borrow.
however this is just a display bug. The others still get rp when you defeat yourself.
The 0-rp problem is a completly diffrent and yes, its up to NGD to fix it already

RP are a measure of how much you play AND how good you are. Surely given equal time you could significantly outscore a mentally retarded person, yes?
So obviously, skill has a lot to do with it.
And yes, this bug needs to be fixed.
