- Is any of your .sdb files larger than 2gb?
- Do you know if your ISP has some transparent proxy to handle http requestS?

I have 8gig:

Code:
root@buffy:~# free
total used free shared buffers cached
Mem: 8181520 7199236 982284 0 743656 4273648
-/+ buffers/cache: 2181932 5999588
Swap: 3905528 44680 3860848
And tcpdump gives this when the client is running:

As far as I'm aware, my ISP doesn't use a proxy, unless it's masking it in some way.

Incidentally, Latest news from the logon page has been showing [[no_news]] for a while too - I don't know if this is related.

Strangely enough, I managed to log in tonight after trying constantly since my previous post. I tried so many things that I can't remember what I did to solve it (if *I* actually did anything)

From memory, this is all I can remember doing most recently:
  • I deleted *idx files from the main Regnum directory (i.e. I didn't touch anything in live).
  • Edited game.cfg and
    • Set all proxy-related values in [network] to 0
    • Deleted all IP addresses after the = signs on the lines starting sv_ in [network]
  • Switched off the "update all new resources at once" in the client options.
Pressing Ctrl-L while the resources were stuck, I also noticed http proxy values were set. These were being read from my Linux enviromnent, as I run a local Squid cache, so I also did an: unset http_proxy.

The same problem with my laptop running Ubuntu Linux 11.10 (oneiric) x64.

I already tried to delete all idx and sdb files and let the client load the 12 files from the beginning, but it results in 6 sdb and 6 idx files altogether ca. 20MB large.

I fixed it. I copied the sdb and idx files from my desktop PC (running Ubuntu Linux 11.10 x64, too) to my laptop.

The performance of Regnum on my laptop (AMD Athlon P340 - ATI HD 4250) heavily decreases. It's now at 20 FPS at the character chooser and ingame 7-8 FPS with interface and 10-11 FPS without interface. Before the interface update I could play with 20-30 FPS at Shader 3.0 - now it's unplayable even at "fixed pipeline".

PS: data1.sdb is greater than 2GB. The log (CTRL + L) says me that it is -1921.64MB larger and -13.53% fragmented.

Maybe you should try one of the solutions mentioned by surak in a similar topic :

res_disk_retriever was undefined, but things do seem better when set to sqlite, even with load all resources at once set. Nice one Scias.
