I don't know what NGD is planning but IMO this would make the most sense:
Calculate the damage absorbtion as a weighted mean of the absorbtions for each damage type, with weights being proportional to the incoming damages of the respective types.
So with your second example, the amount of damage absorbed should be 1/3 * 130 + 1/3 * 100 + 1/3 * 90 = 106+2/3, so the damage would be 439+1/3.
If it was 400 blunt + 100 piercing damage, then the absorbtion would be 4/5 * 140 + 1/5 * 100 = 132, damage = 368.
